Transitions in Visual Storytelling
- Continuity in visual storytelling involves maintaining a seamless flow in frames, background, and characters, and is achieved through techniques like the Gestalt Law of Closure.
- Scott McLoud's transitions, such as Moment to Moment and Scene to Scene, play a vital role in guiding the reader's participation and shaping the point of view in the narrative.

The Significance of Gutters:
- The gutter in comics plays a crucial role in allowing for closure to happen, as it stimulates time and motion when the reader uses closure.
- It acts as an invisible messenger within comics by passing information while being simply an empty space.
Panel-to-Panel Transitions:
- Scott McCloud describes six types of panel-to-panel transitions, each requiring a different degree of closure from the reader.
- The most common transitions in comics are action-to-action, subject-to-subject, and scene-to-scene, driving the story forward in the most effective way.
Unique Examples of Transitions in Comics:
- Examples of unique transitions in comics include aspect-to-aspect in The Silver Surfer, scene-to-scene in A Contract With God, and moment-to-moment in Future Day.
Effective Use of Transitions:
- Authors use transitions and gutters to progress the story, add certain effects, and convey specific ideas throughout the text.
- The final interpretation of the invisible messenger, the gutter, and its accompanying transitions relies on the participation of the reader.
Importance of Reader Participation:
- The author can greatly influence the conclusions drawn by the reader using different types of panel-to-panel transitions within the gutter.
- Readers play a crucial role in using closure between panels to draw conclusions about what the author is trying to convey.
Diverse Use of Transitions:
- Authors creatively use transitions in comics to show the passing of time, emphasize reactions, depict important scenes, and describe the path of a character's life.
Effectiveness of Different Transitions:
- Certain types of transitions are more effective for conveying specific types of actions and scenarios, influencing their frequency of use in comics.

Week 10 and 11:
In this task, I need to do transitions, and there are five options: moment to moment, action to action, subject to subject, scene to scene, and aspect to aspect. After thinking about it, I've decided to go with 'scene to scene' because I feel the other four options might not convey the sense of horror as effectively.
"I'm creating two panels, one depicting the beginning and the other the ending. I aim to create a contrasting feeling, so I've chosen 'scene to scene.' Following an urban legend, the artist starts in a serene, bustling town. However, at the end, they appear in an abandoned town, transformed into the murderous Candyman. Wherever he goes, devastation follows. Driven by revenge and a need for release, he uses the hooked hand to pierce through the hearts of others, accompanied by fire, terror, and a haunting darkness.
Urban Legend Panel
Beginning:In a fit of rage, the wealthy man imprisoned the artist in a room filled with bees, torturing him severely. The wealthy man then replaced the artist's right hand with a hook before setting fire to the room, burning both the artist and the house down.
Ending:One night, piercing screams echoed from the wealthy man's home. The following day, all within the house were found dead in horrifying conditions. Their bodies displayed wounds piercing through them, their hearts missing, the wounds charred, and countless dead bees littered the ground. To prevent a potential outbreak from mishandling the bodies, the residents set the mansion ablaze. Witnesses glimpsed a blurry figure with a hooked hand through the windows, leading the residents to believe it was the vengeful spirit of the artist seeking retribution.
Digitalisation
In two panel,I'm using a two-point perspective, with the vanishing point emphasizing the male protagonist in the illustration. The beginning conveys a nighttime atmosphere, creating a sense of calmness and quietness in the environment. The setting is dark but lacks a feeling of horror.
In the ending, to create a terrifying atmosphere, I darkened the art style and emphasized horror using lighting effects. I intensified the visuals, and the corpses on the ground and the ruins appear desolate and terrifying. With the addition of morning mist, the overall scene looks more frightening, mysterious, and hazy.

Specific Feedback: The idea should be work, so just do it first.

11:
Specific Feedback: Look not bad.
Reflection
Doing this assignment was quite challenging as it required piecing together mysterious segments to transition through an entire story. Choosing the segments and determining the style and atmosphere to complement the preceding GIFs took a considerable amount of time. Within a tight schedule, I was fortunate to conceptualize how I wanted to present it. After creating the visuals using Adobe Illustrator, I found the overall appearance to be rather ordinary. Consequently, I utilized Photoshop to add lighting effects, enhancing the overall atmosphere and impact of the visuals. I feel quite satisfied with the overall outcome.
